सन्तोषः परमं सुखम् ।
Santoṣaḥ paramaṃ sukham.
Contentment is the highest happiness.
Chanakya was a man of conspicuous personal austerity despite wielding enormous influence. He lived simply not from poverty but from principle — observing that desire is a shifting horizon, and the man who owns his wants owns his freedom. Santosha does not mean passivity; it means choosing which desires to serve.
