Pitru Paksha 2026: reflections for each day

पितृ पक्ष

Pitru Paksha · The fortnight of the ancestors · 26 September 2026 – 10 October 2026

For fifteen days before Navratri, Hindu families remember their ancestors — offering food, water and
gratitude to the generations behind them. The banyan's roots are the part of the tree no one sees, and
the part that holds it up.

Daily reflections

  1. What came down to you

Name one thing you inherited — a trait, a habit, a way of seeing — that you didn't choose but are grateful for.

Small act: Tell someone in your family about it today.

  2. What stops with you

Which pattern came down to you that you'd rather not pass on?

Small act: Write one small way you'll do it differently this week.

  3. Doing much with little

What did an elder in your family build or hold together with very little?

Small act: Ask an older relative one question about their early life.

  4. Beyond the bloodline

Whose shoulders are you standing on outside your family — a teacher, a mentor, a stranger's kindness?

Small act: Send them a note. If they're gone, light a lamp for them.

  5. What you'll leave

Fifty years from now, what would you want someone to remember of you?

Small act: Do one thing today that fits that answer.

Pitru Paksha ends on Mahalaya Amavasya. Tomorrow Navratri begins — the season turns from roots to growth.
