Move up and down levels of abstraction to find the right problem to solve.
Ask "why?" repeatedly to move up the ladder (more abstract, more fundamental). Ask "how?" to move down (more concrete, more actionable). The most useful insight often lives at a different level of abstraction than where you started. "I want a better job" → "I want work that uses my full capability" → "I want to be seen" reveals the actual problem.
Take a current goal. Ask "why do I want this?" five times. Check whether the answer at level 5 is being served by your current approach at level 1.
What is the more fundamental problem underlying the surface problem you're trying to solve?
